Tracking changes with RSS Feeds
To help you more easily keep track of changes, each report has individual feeds that you can add to your feed reader. (What are feeds? They're a web technology that lets you check websites to see if new content has been published. You add the feed links to a feed reader, and it periodically checks to see if anything is new.)
| We support RSS & Atom Feeds, for each report, and for the overall site. If you're interested in report content only, we recommend that you follow feeds for those reports (feeds for the whole site can have higher traffic). Click the feed link (shown above) and add the links to your reader. (Your feed reader can be Outlook, Internet Explorer, or Firefox. We have a 'crash course' here.)The next time we update content on that report, your feed reader will let you know! |

Using feeds: a two minute drill
You can read feeds in a variety of programs that you probably already have installed on your computer, or from web-based feed readers (like Google's reader). Internet Explorer and Outlook are two programs that you probably already have on your computer and use regularly, so we'll focus on those two programs for our examples of how to read feeds.
First, find your content. Look for the tell-tale feed icon:
.
Now that you've found the content, you need to tell your reader that you want to follow it.
For Internet Explorer
- When you click on the feed icon, Internet Explorer will present a page explaining that you've just clicked a feed link, and that you can subscribe to it. On Internet Explorer 8, this page looks like this:
- When you click the "Subscribe to this feed," a dialog box about subscribing to the feed should appear. This box should look something like this:
|
- Once you click "Subscribe", the link will be added to your list of feeds (in IE 8, this is in a window that you need to choose to see - from the View menu, click "Explorer Bars," then "Feeds" to see the panel). The panel should look similar to the image below:
Outlook
- For Outlook - the easiest way to subscribe to the feed is add it to Outlook directly. This is done in two basic steps:
- Copy the feed link
- Add the feed to Outlook
1. Copy the feed link:
| First, "right click" on the feed link | Next, copy the shortcut |
|
|
2. Add the feed to Outlook: Adding the feed to Outlook involves a few steps, but they're relatively straightforward:
- Right-click on "RSS Feeds"
- Click "Add a New Feed"
- Paste the feed address into the dialog box
- Click "Add" then check the "RSS Feeds" list to make sure that everything worked
Step-by-step screenshots are below:
1. Right click on "RSS Feeds
|
2. Click "Add new Feed"
|
3. Paste the feed address and click "Add"
|
4. Done. Check the "RSS Feeds" item in your Outlook to make sure.
